Joan Jett (born Joan Marie Larkin; September 22, 1958) is an iconic American musician, singer, songwriter, record producer, and actress. Often referred to as the 'Godmother of Punk' and the 'Queen of Rock 'n' Roll', she is highly respected and recognized for her significant contributions to rock music. Jett is best known for co-founding and performing with the Runaways from 1975 to 1979, whom she released four albums with. After their dissolution, she then formed the independent record label Blackheart Records with producer Kenny Laguna and established her backup band - Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. Jett's prolific career with the Blackhearts led to the release of twelve albums, with three achieving platinum or gold status. Her activist work is also noteworthy, with a focus on animal rights. Jett was recognized on Rolling Stone's 2003 and 2023 lists of the greatest guitarists of all time. In 2015, her impactful music career culminated in an induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
