Joachim Trier (born 1 March 1974) is a Danish-born Norwegian filmmaker, hailed for his deeply introspective and poignant films. His works, often shrouded in melancholy, explore existential dilemmas on love, ambition, memory, and identity. Trier's artistry has earned him a place in the elite circle of filmmakers, amassing prestigious nominations including for an Academy Award, a BAFTA Award, two Cesar Awards, and three Cannes Film Festival Awards.
One of his offerings to the world of cinema is the celebrated Oslo trilogy which consists of Reprise (2006), Oslo, August 31st (2011), and The Worst Person in the World (2021). He also extends his repertoire with other critically acclaimed works such as Louder Than Bombs (2015), Thelma (2017), and a documentary, The Other Munch (2018). Born in Denmark to Norwegian parents, Trier's cinematic journey initiated with his ventures into short films. Further international recognition followed when he was named one of Variety's '10 Directors to Watch' in 2007.
