What's After the Movie
Jay Simon is an English actor, voice artist, writer and director whose career spans over four decades, beginning when he appeared as a solo singer with the English National Opera at the age of thirteen in 1979. Born on 17 December 1966 in London, he later studied drama at the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth (1988‑91) and quickly moved into theatre production, assisting Marina Caldarone on George F. Walker’s Nothing Sacred at Theatr Clwyd before touring with the TIE company Traffic of the Stage. After a stint in Canada performing Lysander in A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Edmonton Fringe Festival and teaching acting to Indigenous performers, Simon broadened his skill set at the Gas‑town Actors’ Centre in Vancouver and even taught method acting at the Tibetan Llamo Theatre Institute in Dharamsala, India. Returning to the United Kingdom he took on memorable operatic and musical roles such as Celadon in Mike Westbrook’s TV opera Good Friday 1663 for Channel Four and Orin Scrivello in Jersey Opera’s Little Shop of Horrors, while also appearing in classic Shakespearean productions for the British Shakespeare Company. His screen résumé is equally impressive, featuring parts like Doug in the Netflix film The Royal Treatment, Alan Griever in Filthy Rich, and Senator Regulus in Roman Empire. As a voice artiste he has narrated documentaries such as China’s Hidden Lands and lent his vocal talent to over forty video games, including the Witcher character Yaevinn and multiple characters in Path of Exile and We Happy Few. In 2012 Simon relocated to New Zealand with his wife Nicola and their three children, where he continues to act, voice‑over, teach and direct, contributing to popular children’s series like Power Rangers and Molly Monster, as well as notable ADR work on productions ranging from The Tudors to Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. His versatility across stage, screen, and sound has made him a respected figure in the international entertainment community, and his ongoing projects confirm a relentless dedication to the craft.
