A graduate of Tallinn Secondary School of Science (1980) and later the Tallinn Conservatory’s Performing Arts Department (1992), he quickly emerged on the theatrical scene with a debut at the Estonian Drama Theatre in Luigi Pirandello’s Six Characters in Search of an Author. Over the years he has embodied more than seventy roles, ranging from Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream to contemporary works by Yasmina Reza and Anton Chekhov, establishing himself as a stalwart of Estonia’s premier drama house. His dedication to the craft is evident in his long‑term engagement with the theatre, where he continues to perform as of the present day.
Beyond the footlights, Uukkivi has become a familiar face on Estonian television, first appearing in the 1993 ETV series Salmonid and later gaining notable recognition as Post in the Kanal 2 crime drama Kelgukoerad (85 episodes). He also produced several series, including Alpimaja and Nurjatud tüdrukud, showcasing his talent behind the camera. In film, his credits range from the satirical Tallinn pimeduses (1993) to the World War II drama 1944 (2015) and the fantasy comedy Kratt (2020). A passionate musician, he co‑founded the punk band Velikije Luki under the nickname Munk, releasing three influential albums. Uukkivi presently resides in Tallinn with partner actress Mari‑Liis Lill, and they share two children, reflecting a personal life as rich and varied as his professional one.
