What's After the Movie

Iddo Goldberg

Iddo Goldberg (born 5 August 1975 in Haifa, Israel) is a versatile Israeli‑British actor who has built a trans‑Atlantic career spanning television, film, and digital media. He grew up in a culturally diverse household, the son of a Jewish mother from Jerusalem and a Latvian father who had emigrated from Riga via Northern Rhodesia before settling in Israel, a background that informs his multilingual abilities and nuanced performances. At the age of ten his family relocated to London, where he attended the JFS secondary school in North London and began developing a passion for acting alongside his siblings. Goldberg’s professional debut came in the mid‑1990s, and by 1995 he was regularly appearing on British television, notably as Brandon in the series Attachments and later as Ben in the critically acclaimed drama Secret Diary of a Call Girl, where he met future wife Ashley Madekwe. His breakout role arrived in 2013 when he portrayed the radical socialist Freddie Thorne in the first season of Peaky Blinders, earning praise for his intense energy and period authenticity. Subsequent credits include Isaac Walton in the supernatural series Salem (2014‑2017), a villainous turn as T. O. Morrow in Supergirl (2015), and the complex character Bennett Knox in the post‑apocalyptic series Snowpiercer (2020‑2024). Beyond acting, Goldberg is an avid filmmaker; he has directed short films such as Supper (2012) and a personal documentary Luba (2010) about his maternal grandmother, and he curates a visual diary on Tumblr. In 2012 he married English actress Ashley Madekwe, and the couple welcomed their first child in 2023, continuing a partnership that blends personal and professional collaboration. Goldberg remains an outspoken advocate for Israel, signing public letters defending its right to self‑defence, and he continues to seek roles that challenge conventional narratives while expanding his artistic repertoire.
