**Henry Wadsworth** (*born Joseph Henry Wadsworth on June 18, 1903 in New York City*) was an American actor whose career spanned the early sound era of Hollywood. *He emerged from a distinguished New England lineage that traced its roots back to 1632, when his ancestors first settled in Hartford, Connecticut, and he was the grandson of the noted lawyer and congressman William Henry Wadsworth.* After completing his secondary education at Maysville High School in 1921, he briefly attended the University of Kentucky before enrolling at the Carnegie Institute of Technology’s drama school, where he honed the craft that would launch his cinematic journey. His first major screen appearance came in 1927 when he starred in the title role of Howard Lindsay’s *Tommy*, a performance that caught the attention of Paramount Studios and secured him a place in the emerging talkies. Over the next two decades Wadsworth built a solid résumé of both leading and supporting roles, appearing in such classics as *Applause* (1929), *The Thin Man* (1934) and the horror‑favorite *Mark of the Vampire* (1935).
