Hanno Koffler

Born on March 25, 1980 in West Berlin, Hanno Koffler grew up in a working‑middle‑class family alongside his three brothers in the Charlottenburg district. The fall of the Berlin Wall dramatically altered his family’s circumstances, forcing his father to lose his professional foothold and prompting a relocation to Saxony‑Anhalt. From an early age Koffler displayed a restless artistic energy, taking part in small theatrical productions and, in 1994, co‑founding the band Kerosin with his brother Max, where he served as the drummer. The group achieved notable success by finishing second in the world‑wide live band competition Emergenza in 2002. After returning to Berlin at eighteen, Koffler sought formal training at the Ernst Busch Theater School but was rejected, leading him to pursue further studies at Vienna’s prestigious Max Reinhardt Seminar until 2007, where he honed his craft under the direction of Klaus Maria Brandauer.

Koffler’s cinematic breakthrough arrived in the early 2000s with roles in Anatomy 2 and Marco Kreuzpaintner’s teen drama Summer Storm (2004), followed by the cult classic Krabat (2008). He gained international recognition with the critically acclaimed Free Fall (2013), earning a German Film Award nomination for Best Actor. Subsequent highlights include his portrayal of Andreas Marquardt in Rosa von Praunheim’s Tough Love (2015), a role in Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck’s Oscar‑nominated Never Look Away (2018), and recurring appearances as Walter Stennes in the globally popular series Babylon Berlin. His award repertoire features a Best Male Actor prize at the Durban International Film Festival (2008) and the Franz‑Hofer‑Preis (2009), underscoring a versatile career that bridges both film and music.
