George Robert Stephanopoulos is an American television host, political commentator, and former senior advisor to President Bill Clinton. Born on February 10, 1961 in Fall River, Massachusetts, he grew up in a Greek‑Orthodox family; his father was a priest and his mother directed the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese’s news service. After graduating summa cum laude from Columbia University with a BA in political science, he earned a Rhodes Scholarship and received an MA in theology from Balliol College, Oxford. He entered politics as an aide to Congressman Ed Feighan, later working on the Dukakis campaign and serving as chief of staff to Dick Gephardt. Stephanopoulos rose to national prominence as a communications director for Clinton’s 1992 presidential campaign, a role dramatized in the documentary The War Room. He served as White House communications director (1993) and senior advisor for policy and strategy (1993‑1996), participating in key initiatives on crime legislation, health care, and affirmative action, while also acting as a de facto press secretary during the early Clinton years. After leaving the administration, he authored the bestseller All Too Human and transitioned to broadcasting, becoming a chief Washington correspondent for ABC News. He has anchored This Week since 2002, co‑anchored Good Morning America, and moderated several high‑profile presidential debates, earning multiple Emmy awards for his journalism.
