Eugene Levy

Eugene Levy (born December 17, 1946) is a Canadian actor and comedian who is renowned for his depictions of perplexed and unconventional characters. During his career, he has received a myriad of accolades, including four Primetime Emmy Awards, a Grammy Award, and a Screen Actors Guild Award. Levy was first appointed to the Order of Canada in 2011, and was furthermore elevated to the Companion of the Order of Canada in 2022. He commenced his acting career by writing and performing in the sketch series SCTV (1976–1984), during which he bagged two Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series. Levy has appeared in several films, such as National Lampoon's Vacation (1983), Splash (1984), and Multiplicity (1996). He garnered fame for co-writing and featuring in a range of films with Christopher Guest and is recognized for his role in the American Pie movie series.

Levy starred as Johnny Rose in a sitcom named Schitt's Creek from 2015 to 2020, which he co-created alongside his son and co-star, Dan Levy. In 2019 and 2020, he was nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, and took home the award in 2020. He was also lauded with the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series. As of 2023, Levy started hosting a travel documentary series called The Reluctant Traveler. Levy was born to a Jewish family in downtown Hamilton, Ontario. His mother, Rebecca, was a homemaker, while his father, Joseph, held the position of a foreman at an automobile plant. Early in his life, Levy attended Westdale Secondary School, where he held the position of student council president, and pursued higher education at McMaster University.
