What's After the Movie
Ellie Bamber is the professional name of Eleanor Elizabeth Bamber, an English actress whose career has spanned stage, screen, and music videos since she first stepped into the public eye at the age of twelve. Born on 2 February 1997 in Surrey, England, she grew up with a younger brother named Lucas, while her father David worked in finance and her mother Zoe managed her budding career, providing a supportive environment that nurtured her early love of performance. Her education at Eagle House School, the drama‑focused Hawley Place School (a part of Hurst Lodge School), and later Wellington College for Sixth Form gave her formal training and a drama scholarship that paved the way for her entrance into professional theatre. At thirteen she was hand‑picked by Sir Trevor Nunn to play Young Jenny in Aspects of Love at the Menier Chocolate Factory, making her one of the youngest members of the historic Players' Theatre Club. She continued to excel on stage, earning a nomination for the Evening Standard Theatre Award for Best Newcomer in a Musical for her role as Dinah Lord in High Society at The Old Vic, and later winning third prize at the Ian Charleson Awards for her portrayal of Hilde in The Lady from the Sea at the Donmar Warehouse. Bamber’s screen debut arrived with the BBC film The Falling (2014), and she quickly moved to feature films, starring as Lydia Bennet in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies the same year. Her filmography grew with roles in Tom Ford’s Nocturnal Animals (2016), Disney’s The Nutcracker and the Four Realms (2018), and the lead in The Seven Sorrows of Mary (2018). On television she is best known for playing adult Cosette in the BBC adaptation of Les Misérables (2018), Mandy Rice‑Davies in The Trial of Christine Keeler (2019‑2020), Angela Knippenberg (later Kane) in The Serpent (2021), and as Dove/Elora Danan in Disney+’s Willow (2022). In addition to acting, she appeared in Shawn Mendes’ music video “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back” and was selected as a BFI and Screen Daily Screen Star of Tomorrow in 2015, underscoring her status as a versatile and rising talent in the British entertainment industry.
