Elizabeth Allen

Elizabeth Allen was an American stage, film and television performer whose career spanned more than four decades, beginning in the early 1950s and concluding in the late 1990s. Born on March 18, 1929 in Jersey City, New Jersey, she moved to New York City after high school to study acting, quickly gaining recognition for her striking presence and versatile vocal talents. Her Broadway debut came in 1951 with the musical “The Liar”, and she soon secured the coveted leading role of the title character in the 1954 hit musical “The Rose”, earning praise for her ability to blend dramatic depth with melodic charm. Allen’s transition to screen was marked by a memorable appearance in the 1956 film “The Rookie”, where she displayed a natural on‑camera charisma that led to a series of notable supporting roles throughout the 1960s, including parts in “The Caretakers” (1963) and “The Boston Strangler” (1968).

Beyond her film work, Allen became a beloved television star, most famously portraying “Viva” in the sitcom “The Beverly Hillbillies” and later starring as the charismatic Mrs. Lillian Anderson in the long‑running series “The Young and the Restless.” Her television contributions extended to guest appearances on classics such as “Murder, She Wrote,” “Star Trek: The Original Series,” and “The Love Boat,” showcasing her adaptability across genres.
