David Johansen

David Roger Johansen, born January 9, 1950, is an American singer, songwriter, and actor. Noted for his musical versatility, he achieved fame as a member of the avant-garde band the New York Dolls, recognized pioneers of the early punk scene. Johansen's bijou persona of Buster Poindexter further immortalized him, particularly with the invincible, chart-busting number 'Hot Hot Hot'. His diverse career shuttles between blues, punk, pop, and an intriguing host of cinematic roles, the memorable Ghost of Christmas Past in 'Scrooged' being one of them. Hailing from Staten Island, New York, Johansen is of Irish-Norwegian descent, his early life punctuated by familial exposure to various genres of music, including opera. Johansen's illustrious career began with the band The Vagabond Missionaries, before he became an essential component of the proto-punk band, the New York Dolls.
