What's After the Movie
Cyril Descours is a French actor born on 15 July 1983 in Frankfurt, Germany. From an early age he displayed a remarkable linguistic talent, speaking French, German and English by the age of four, a skill that later helped him navigate a multilingual career in film, television and theatre. After participating in drama activities throughout primary school, he enrolled at the prestigious Cours Florent in 1999, where he trained for three years before continuing his studies at the Conservatoire of the 10th arrondissement in Paris in 2002‑2003. Simultaneously, he pursued a Master’s degree in literary translation, demonstrating his commitment to both the literary and performing arts. His first stage role came in La guerre de Troie n’aura pas lieu by Jean Giraudoux, and his screen debut arrived with a short film in 2000, quickly followed by a major television role as Tristan in the 2003 TV film L’Enfant de l’aube, which attracted over ten million viewers on TF1. Throughout the mid‑2000s he appeared in a variety of projects, including the segment Paris, je t’aime directed by Gurinder Chadha and the popular series Clara Sheller. Descours gained critical recognition with his performance as Vincent in Complices (2010), earning a César nomination for Most Promising Actor in 2011. He continued to showcase his versatility in historical dramas such as Une femme dans la Révolution and De Gaulle, l’éclat et le secret, as well as contemporary pieces like Ciel rouge and Les Gardiennes. Beyond screen work, he remains active on stage, co‑founded a non‑verbal theatre group in 2015, and appears on radio, notably as Léon in Madame Bovary (2017). An accomplished athlete, Descours holds a 2nd Dan black belt in karate and practices several other sports, even co‑authoring karate books for children.
