Chloe Webb

Born on June 25, 1956, in the bohemian enclave of Greenwich Village in Manhattan, Chloe Webb spent a peripatetic childhood dictated by her father's work as a bridge and road designer, ultimately graduating from Bishop Grimes High School in Syracuse, New York. At sixteen she was admitted to The Boston Conservatory, later continuing her studies at the Berklee College of Music, where she cultivated a powerful singing voice that carried her through late‑night bar gigs despite being underage. While her early ambitions lay in music, she soon realized that acting allowed her to explore a broader emotional palette, prompting a decisive shift toward the stage. In April 1982 Webb joined the Off‑Broadway satire Forbidden Broadway, sharpening her comic timing and earning a reputation for fearless character work. Four years later she broke into film with Alex Cox’s cult classic Sid & Nancy (1986), delivering a breakout performance as the troubled Nancy Spungen that garnered best‑actress honors from the National Society of Film Critics, the Boston Film Critics, and the San Francisco Film Critics. Webb’s career quickly diversified; she slipped into Peter Greenaway’s austere drama The Belly of an Architect (1987), played the whimsical girlfriend of Danny DeVito’s character in Ivan Reitman’s comedy Twins (1988), and made a memorable cameo in Ghostbusters II (1989). On television she earned a Primetime Emmy nomination for portraying aspiring singer Laurette Barber on ABC’s China Beach, and later impressed critics as Monica Gallagher, the volatile estranged wife of William H. Macy’s protagonist on Showtime’s long‑running series Shameless. Between screen work she remained a stalwart of the Los Angeles stage, winning Drama‑Logue and Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle awards for productions such as The House of Blue Leaves and The Model Apartment. More recent credits include guest spots on Judging Amy, House, Two and a Half Men, Medium and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, as well as a reunion with Alex Cox in the off‑beat thriller Repo Chick (2009). Throughout her three‑decade‑plus career Webb has been celebrated for her fearless commitment to unconventional roles, her ability to blend humor with pathos, and her indefatigable presence across film, television and theater.
