Preston was born to Pam and Ray Preston, and her brother is also an actor. After graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Evansville, she earned an acting diploma from Juilliard School's Drama Division. Preston co-owns the production company Daisy 3 Pictures and has played significant roles in multiple television series, winning a Primetime Emmy Award for her role in The Good Wife.
