Ariane Schluter

Ariane Schluter is a celebrated Dutch actress whose career has spanned over three decades, beginning in the early 1990s and continuing to the present day. Born on 1 February 1966 in Voorburg, Netherlands, she pursued formal training at the Maastricht Academy of Dramatic Arts, where she honed her craft in both classical and contemporary performance techniques. After graduating, Schluter quickly immersed herself in the Dutch theatre scene, taking on a variety of demanding stage roles that showcased her versatility and emotional depth. In 1994 she expanded her creative repertoire by co‑writing the screenplay for the provocative film 06 (also known as 1‑900 (Sex Without Hangups)), directed by Theo van Gogh, a project that earned a special Jury Prize at the Netherlands Film Festival and marked her entry into the world of cinema. Her collaboration with distinguished Dutch filmmakers continued to flourish, most notably with Alex van Warmerdam, who cast her in several of his critically acclaimed films such as The Dress (1996), Little Tony (1998), and Waiter (2006). Schluter’s performances are distinguished by a subtle intensity, often blending humor with pathos, which has earned her multiple nominations for the prestigious Golden Calf award, including a Best Actress nod for 06 and later for Accused (2014). In 2015 she was honored with the Golden Calf for Best Actress in a TV‑Drama for her role in Een goed leven. Beyond acting, she contributed to the film community as a juror for ShortCutz Amsterdam (2015‑2016), working alongside industry veterans such as Rutger Hauer and Jan Harlan.
