Angela Griffin

Angela Griffin is an English actress, television presenter and director who first captured public attention in the early 1990s. Born on 19 July 1976 in Leeds, England, she grew up on the Cottingley Estate and attended Beeston Primary School, Hugh Gaitskell Middle School and Intake High School. The daughter of an English mother and a Caribbean father from Saint Kitts and Nevis, Griffin’s mixed‑heritage background later informed her presenting work on Channel 4’s Brown Britain. She made her breakthrough as Fiona Middleton, the charismatic hairdresser on ITV’s Coronation Street from 1992 to 1998, a role she revisited for a guest appearance in 2019. Her early television career also included a minor part in Emmerdale (1993) and the original cast stint as staff nurse Jasmine Hopkins on the BBC medical drama Holby City (1999‑2001).

After establishing herself as a versatile performer, Griffin expanded into primetime drama and presenting. She embodied art teacher Kim Campbell on BBC One’s Waterloo Road across several series (2006‑2007, 2009‑2010, 2023‑2024), later returning as Head Teacher in the show’s revival. Her detective work shone as DS Lizzie Maddox in ITV’s Lewis (2014‑2015) and as Stevie Hall in the Canadian series The Detail (2018). Parallel to acting, Griffin hosted her own daytime talk show Angela and Friends on Sky 1 (2009‑2010) and later co‑presented The One Show (2018). She has also contributed voice work, notably as Amy the vet in Postman Pat, and stepped behind the camera, directing multiple episodes of Waterloo Road.
