Amirah Vann

American actress and singer, Amirah Charline Vann, was born on June 24, 1980. She launched her career on the Off-Broadway stage prior to landing roles on-screen. She gained much renown for her performances in the WGN America period drama series, Underground (2016—2017), and earned an NAACP Image Award nomination for her work. Later, Vann starred in the role of attorney Tegan Price in the ABC legal thriller series, How to Get Away with Murder (2017—2020), and in 2022, she took on a role in the period romantic drama film, A Jazzman's Blues. Vann was born in Queens, New York to an African-American father from Georgia and Puerto Rican mother. Having attended both Midwood High School and Far Rockaway High School, she graduated in 1998 and obtained her BA from Fordham University in 2002 and an MFA degree from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts in 2007. Before transitioning to film and television, she worked for many years in Off-Broadway theater. Other significant roles Vann took on throughout her career include appearances in films like And So It Goes and Tracers as well as a role in the final season of Major Crimes as Special Agent Jazzma Fey. Her role as Ernestine, the head house slave of the Macon plantation, in Underground in 2016 garnered her an NAACP Image Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.
