Agustín Almodóvar

Agustín Almodóvar Caballero, born on 25 May 1955 in Calzada de Calatrava, Ciudad Real, Spain, is a seminal Spanish film producer best known for his longstanding partnership with his older brother, the acclaimed director Pedro Almodóvar. After earning a degree in chemistry from the Complutense University of Madrid, he entered the film industry in a modest role as a messenger on Fernando Trueba’s Sé infiel y no mires con quién, gaining valuable insight into production logistics. In 1986 he co‑founded the independent production company El Deseo S.A. with Pedro, a venture that would become the primary vehicle for the Almodóvar brothers’ creative output and a cornerstone of contemporary Spanish cinema. Through El Deseo, Agustín has produced every Pedro‑directed feature since Matador (1986), including internationally celebrated works such as Mujeres al borde de un ataque de nervios, Todo sobre mi madre, Volver, La piel que habito, and Dolor y gloria, each contributing to the resurgence of Spanish film on the world stage.
