Past: In the small Tamil village of Tenkasi, Kathir and Basheer are the tight-knit best friends who share everything, including a surprising camaraderie with the village barber, Chacha, who runs the bustling Singapore Saloon. As a kid, Kathir is briefly angry with Chacha after he shaves Kathir’s head and, in a perplexing moment, circumcises Basheer. Yet as time passes, Kathir grows to admire Chacha’s skill and eventually forms a closer bond with him. In tenth grade, Kathir falls for Nilavathi, the daughter of one of Chacha’s customers, a romance that briefly blossoms until trouble forces Nilavathi and her father to leave town. Chacha’s stern guidance then steers Kathir toward the trade, as he begins to learn the craft that will become his life’s calling.

In twelfth grade, Chacha leaves town but leaves behind his toolbox and his hard-won lessons. Kathir’s father urges him to pursue college, a push that Kathir and Basheer accept, dreaming of brighter futures. Kathir’s heart finds Nilavathi again—now a college student herself—and he helps style her for a school play, earning her admiration and a place in his life. Yet the path remains rocky: Nilavathi rejects a bourgeois job offer, and Kathir finds a more meaningful future in hairstyling than in stability. Nilavathi calls and even contemplates marriage, but her fear of Kathir’s profession keeps them apart for a time. Kathir lands a gig at Wink Saloon, owned by Anoop Menon, and Basheer marries his college sweetheart, Haseena, sowing seeds for a life built on friendship and shared dreams.

A pivotal moment comes when Suresh Chandra Menon visits the saloon, notices Kathir’s distinctive haircutting style, and seeks a transformation for his own look. Anoop Menon recognizes Kathir’s talent and elevates him to a senior stylist with a substantial salary. Kathir and Nilavoliyal—now a couple in love—marry, and they set their sights on buying a new saloon property. The price tag climbs to a staggering 3.5 crores, triggering a cascade of comic misadventures: Kathir’s father contemplates selling the family home for far less than its value, while Kathir’s father-in-law balks at the financial risk. A burst of chaos follows when Chakrapani, already in a few too many drinks, rewrites the cheque for three crores, sending shockwaves through the family—only to realize his mistake the next day.

The dream grows into reality as the saloon’s construction winds toward completion. Anoop visits Chakrapani with a blank cheque, hoping to secure the property for six crores, but Chakrapani refuses, convinced that no one should erase Kathir’s identity. Then misfortune strikes when rain-soaked days bring crumbling flats to the nearby area, forcing slum residents to move onto Kathir’s land and threatening the fragile balance of the village. A short time later, the financier presses for payment, and Haseena steps in with jewels to placate the debt, only for Kathir to be pickpocketed in the ensuing turmoil.

Present: Into this moment of crisis steps a new force, Thiruvannamalai, who arrives at Kathir’s door to remind him that his saloon is more than a business—it is a landmark with a storied past tied to a banyan tree and parrots that once thrived on the land. Thiruvannamalai encourages Kathir to mentor local talent and to breathe life back into the Singapore Saloon’s spirit. Inspired, Kathir gathers a group of skilled youths around his saloon, gives them a share of his craft, and guides them into a dance competition under the banner of the Singapore Saloon Gang. The news travels fast, drawing support from across the city, including Lokesh Kanagaraj, who lends his voice to the revived dream, and Jiiva as a Reality Show Judge, who recognizes the talent in Kathir’s enterprise.

As the finals approach, a new obstacle looms: a court ruling to demolish Singapore Saloon on the grounds that the building might crumble like the demolished flats. Yet Kathir’s perseverance, the symbolic parrots returning to the land, and the tangible backing of the city—bolstered by the presence of the community and the star power of supporters—turn the tide. The Singapore Saloon Gang wins the finals, and a halt is ordered to the demolition. Months later, Singapore Saloon receives a formal inauguration with dignitaries arriving, and Chacha himself appears to share in the triumph. The emotional arc closes as Kathir and Basheer spot Chacha among the crowd, and the film ends with Chacha seeing the old box and giving Kathir a final haircut, a symbolic return to roots and a reaffirmation of identity.
