Dui Rupaiyan 2017

Two small-time gold smugglers, Jureli and Dari, traffic gold illegally from India into Nepal. Their employer, Tika Pahari, and his brutal assistant Juddha hand them a Nepali two-rupee note—known locally as a dui rupaiyaa—and wire the serial number to the Indian party. The arrangement sets off a tense web of trust and deceit as they navigate a world where every handoff could bring a fatal twist.

On a routine run, they pull into a restaurant owned by the region’s ASP, Buddhi Tamang. Dari tries his luck with Maya, the ASP’s wife, Maya, only to be interrupted by her young son. To quiet him, Dari palms him the dui rupaiyaa note, a move that will soon come back to haunt them. Trouble follows when Maya’s husband arrives, and Dari is chased through the crowded streets. Jureli steps in at the last moment to pull Dari clear from danger, a brief mercy in a night full of escalating risk.

Near the Indo-Nepal border, Dari realizes he left the note back at Maya’s hotel. Without it, the Indian party refuses to release the gold and gives them a single day to recover it. The clock ticks ominously as the duo scramble to salvage the situation, aware that a single misstep could cost them everything they’ve risked.

The following day, Dari visits Maya and learns the ASP has confiscated his phone, and Maya’s feelings for Dari have cooled. To reclaim the phone, Dari and Jureli shadow the ASP into a bustling fun fair, where they mingle with the region’s signature energy. There, they share the dance floor with the main dancer, Swastima Khadka, in a moment that heightens the stakes and the drama.

Outside the fair, the ASP opens Dari’s phone and discovers the truth: Dari is Maya’s lover. A heated confrontation erupts, and once again Jureli steps in to save Dari from a dangerous spillover of violence. That night, Maya reveals the deeper truth: she was in love with Dari but was pressured to marry the ASP for her father’s sake, a secret that adds a heavy emotional weight to their beleaguered predicament.

With the note still missing, Dari and Jureli search the market but come up empty-handed. Desperate, they turn to Jhimrik Dai, a local goon who traffics in illegal body parts, Rajan Ishan in a bid to unlock any possible leverage. Jhimrik proposes a brutal alternative if they can’t find the note, and he forces them toward a disturbing fate: the consumption of laddu laced with an intoxicant. Meanwhile, the ASP has sketched Dari and threatens Maya, escalating the danger felt by everyone involved.

Their peril deepens when Mandal, an ambulance operator with his own murky agenda, Rabindra Jha captures Dari and Jureli. The ambulance they depend on for their smuggling becomes a tool for a dangerous organ-trade network that Jhimrik coordinates. After a violent confrontation, Mandal’s true colors come into view, revealing his uneasy cooperation with Jhimrik.

On Jhimrik’s command they call the Indian party to lure them into a trap, only to learn they intend to kill the duo and seize the entire gold package. Losing the dui rupaiyaa might have sealed their fate, but the ensuing chaos explodes into a comedy of survival: a wild clash involving Jhimrik’s gang, the Indian party, Dari, Jureli, and their boss. The pair manage to escape in Mandal’s ambulance, while the others are arrested by the ASP.

In the aftermath, Mandal is taken to the hospital after being shot in the bum, and Dari discovers two pieces of gold hidden in the ambulance seat—an echo of the moment he’d tossed away his anger earlier. The ASP takes credit for a successful operation, praising his team and seemingly overshadowing Maya’s role in the tangled mess.

The film closes with a twist: the ASP’s son reveals that he never spent the dui rupaiyaa. His motive was to settle a score with Dari for flirting with his mother, a personal revenge that underscores the messy moral lines these characters tread. Amid the chaos and near-misses, Jureli and Dari raise a quiet toast to their accidental fortune, celebrating the prospect of becoming billionaires despite the odds stacked against them.
