Meanwhile, Ken, a half-Japanese man raised primarily by his uncle after experiencing his father’s suicide and with his mother having returned permanently to the United States, has been working diligently since he was just fifteen. His job at Nobu’s construction business, where his uncle Nobu is a key figure, has been a steady yet quiet pursuit. Ken harbors a secret wish—he wants to learn English so he can someday reconnect with his mother across the ocean, longing for deeper understanding and connection.

Over the course of just three days, their lives unexpectedly become intertwined.
