Biography

Who Is Stella LeSaint?

Stella LeSaint was born in San Diego, California, U.S. in 1881. Credited on films since 1936, as an actor. The background, training and the roles that shaped the career.

Stella LeSaint, born Stella Razeto on December 17, 1881, in San Diego, California, was a prominent American silent film actress whose career spanned the early years of Hollywood cinema. Raised in California, she initially pursued a career in performing arts on the stage and in vaudeville, eventually founding her own troupe, Stella Razeto and Company, in New York City. Her stage career was cut short due to illness, which compelled her to seek alternative artistic avenues and ultimately led her to the then-nascent motion picture industry. In 1913, LeSaint transitioned into film, beginning what would become a notable chapter in cinematic history with her debut in productions of the era. She initially joined the Selig Polyscope Company, one of the most influential film studios of the silent era, where she honed her craft and developed a distinctive screen presence. In 1916, LeSaint made a significant professional move by leaving Selig to join Universal Company, a major studio that would help shape her legacy and open doors to more prominent roles. During this productive period, she starred alongside the popular actor William Garwood in several productions, including the notable film Lord John in New York. Despite her growing success in film, LeSaint decided to leave the industry in 1917, choosing to return to the stage for reasons that reflected her deep roots in theatrical performance. She remained largely absent from the screen for nearly two decades before returning to Hollywood by 1935, though this time she took on predominantly small, uncredited bit parts as the industry evolved around her. On a personal note, she married fellow actor Edward LeSaint on December 25, 1913, beginning a professional and personal partnership that lasted until his death on September 10, 1940. Although she took LeSaint as her married name, she kept her birth surname Razeto (sometimes spelled Razetto) for all professional dealings, preserving a link to her pre-marriage identity. Stella LeSaint passed away on September 21, 1948, in Malibu, California, at the age of 66, and she was laid to rest in the historic Hollywood Forever Cemetery, a testament to her enduring connection to the entertainment industry.
