Spoilers ahead
Ellis, voiced by Emilio Fuentes, and his Grandmother, voiced by Sonoko Konishi, inhabit a mysterious sink-hole where floating rocks drift amid heaps of discarded items and old machines. They carve out a small home from the garbage and survive on potatoes they manage to grow. Each day, Grandma has Ellis attach a cord to himself so he can float out and collect items they can repurpose into tools, vehicles, and shelter. The pair dream of escaping this shaded underworld by building a rocket that will carry them toward the bright light at the top. When Ellis uncovers an abandoned plane tangled in the wreckage, hope rises—yet the craft is only large enough for one occupant.
