In a distant sector of the galaxy, a scientific spacecraft from Earth, the Pole, makes an emergency landing on an uninhabited world when a radiation leak forces the crew to abandon ship. Left behind are crucial supplies like food and weapons, and what follows is a quiet, stubborn struggle to endure. For 17 long years, the survivors carve out a new life far from the wreck, building a settlement with makeshift tools, learning to hunt the local predators, and fending off the planet’s harsh conditions with whatever basic weapons they can cobble together. The tale centers on a boy named Oleg, born after the crash, who grows up with memories of only the settlement and the strange, fragile peace they’ve forged.

When a fresh expedition is organized to retrieve more supplies from the Pole, Oleg joins with two friends, Dick and Mariana, stepping out under the watchful eye of an elder who guides their journey. The path is perilous: they come across remnants of previous expeditions and run into obstacles that test their resolve at every turn. The voyage becomes a test of courage, teamwork, and sacrifice, especially when the elder sacrifices himself to save Oleg, leaving the three youths to press onward on their own.

Their return to the Pole reveals unexpected riches: supplies, functional blasters, and a cache of Earth food that offers a taste of a home they barely remember. A poignant moment unfolds as Oleg discovers his father’s blaster and wields it to defend his friends against a giant lizard that threatens their small party. In the ship’s radio room, a flicker of possibility appears when Oleg accidentally activates a signal, revealing a glimmer of hope—their only chance of rescue lies in learning to operate the ship’s communication equipment.

With renewed determination, they haul books from the ship back to the settlement, where they begin the patient, painstaking process of learning to send a signal to Earth. The expedition’s success is not merely a rescue plan; it also marks a small step toward reestablishing contact with the world that sent them into space years before. Alongside this hopeful endeavor, a domesticated creature, the goat, appears in the settlement and soon has offspring, symbolizing a new chapter of life, adaptation, and resilience on a planet that once seemed utterly alien.
