
A vivid Austrian drama that shows the side of World War I known to women. Wealthy businessman’s son Carl Behrnd marries Pauli Arndt, daughter of a pacifist professor. When the war begins Carl is conscripted, leaving Pauli, her family and friends to endure civilian hardship. Pauli’s father is dismissed for teaching that war is evil, sparking a clash with Carl’s father and plunging their household into despair as they await his return.
