Passenger Reviews & Ratings
Critics gave Passenger 52 on Metacritic. Our Echo Score gives it 61/100, strongest in sensory experience (70) and weakest in character & emotion (50).
Passenger Echo Score Breakdown
Passenger presents an uneven horror experience that oscillates between moments of effective tension and stretches of generic pacing. Critics acknowledge the director's skill in crafting suspenseful set pieces, yet many note the film's reliance on familiar genre conventions and a screenplay that falters in logic and depth. The mixed reception from both critics and audiences results in a modest overall rating that reflects its sporadic strengths amid notable shortcomings.
Our own 0–100 rating, built from five aspects: art, character, story, the sensory experience and how well a film rewatches.
- Art & Craft 68
In terms of direction and production values, the film shows competence with a clear visual style and well-executed sound design. Critics point out solid craftwork and moments of tense, atmospheric staging, while also noting occasional overexposure of set pieces that dilute impact. The overall artistic execution is competent but not distinctive, landing in the upper‑mid range.
- Character & Emotion 50
When it comes to character depth and performance, the leads deliver adequate energy but lack compelling nuance. Some reviewers praise the chemistry of the central couple, yet many describe the protagonists as uninteresting and the emotional resonance as limited. This balance of modest approval and notable criticism yields an average character rating.
- Story & Flow 55
The narrative structure offers a strong opening but quickly succumbs to uneven pacing and logical gaps. Critics cite a confusing screenplay and rushed reliance on genre tropes, while a few viewers appreciate the fast start and occasional engaging twists. The story’s mixed coherence and pacing result in a middling score.
- Sensory Experience 70
Sensory elements such as sound design and visual tone receive consistent commendation. Reviewers highlight the film’s effective use of loud noises, atmospheric soundscapes, and a dark, disorienting visual palette that sustains tension. Positive feedback outweighs minor criticisms, placing the sensory experience in the higher range.
- Rewatch Factor 60
Rewatch potential is limited by the film’s reliance on predictable scares, though its energetic set pieces and occasional surprise moments retain some appeal. Some audience members report enjoyment on subsequent viewings, whereas others find the novelty wears thin quickly. This split leads to a moderate rewatch factor rating.
