As fate would have it, two strangers, David and Claire, disembark from the same bus at a shared stop, only for David's curiosity to get the better of him as he follows Claire. Her accusations of stalking swiftly escalate into a heated exchange, revealing that they are, in fact, an inseparable couple living together as boyfriend and girlfriend. But just as life seems to be returning to its usual rhythm, Claire vanishes without a trace. A desperate David contacts her friends and workplace, only to be met with radio silence from the authorities, who offer little more than a series of meager missing person flyers.

A full year passes, marked by the passing of time and the lingering ache of uncertainty. It is then that Claire's friend Buck reappears in David's life, their conversation punctuated by David's growing unease as he becomes increasingly obsessed with the mystery surrounding his missing loved one. One fateful evening, after a few too many drinks, David challenges Buck to join him on a spontaneous adventure, culminating in an impromptu jump from a precarious ledge. The next morning, Buck announces his sudden departure, leaving David to stew in a mixture of resentment and longing.

As the hours tick by, David finds himself drawn back into the city's vibrant rhythm, riding the bus through its bustling streets as memories of Claire flood his mind. The bus driver, seemingly oblivious to David's emotional turmoil, forces him off the vehicle at its final stop, sending David hurtling back to reality. His apartment, once a sanctuary, now lies in disarray, courtesy of Buck's careless search for clues. It is then that Buck makes his move, striking David with brutal efficiency before fleeing the scene.

As David picks himself up from the wreckage, he sets about contacting the authorities once more, only to be met with Detective Sloan's skepticism and reluctance to delve deeper into the case. Undeterred, David takes it upon himself to investigate further, stumbling upon a hidden cache of photographs that serve as a tantalizing breadcrumb trail leading him to a local junkyard. It is there that he crosses paths with a man whose initial warmth quickly gives way to hostility, as he demands to know what brings David to his doorstep.

After enduring the cruel whims of fate at the hands of this enigmatic figure, David finds himself back in his own apartment, where an unwelcome visitor awaits in the form of Aleksandr, a ruthless mobster with ties to the junkyard. As David struggles to keep pace with Aleksandr's relentless interrogation, he learns that Claire is wanted for her alleged involvement in the murder of this very same man's brother. With his world turned upside down, David is forced to confront the dark reality that may well be hiding beneath the surface. And just as he begins to unravel the tangled threads of this twisted mystery, Detective Sloan appears at his doorstep once more, bearing news that will shatter everything David thought he knew about Claire and Buck.

As David delves deeper into the enigmatic Aleksandr's motives, he finds himself on a quest to uncover the truth about Claire's disappearance and untimely demise in Vancouver. His investigation leads him to question the widow of a businessman whose face appears alongside Claire's in a collection of photographs. Although this line of inquiry yields nothing concrete, David's paranoia is piqued by the sudden appearance of a car tailing him through the city's streets. Panic sets in as he flees into the woods, only to be pursued by a relentless foot-chase that culminates in a surprise attack on his pursuer, leaving the man crippled. The SUV intervenes just in time to prevent David from making a hasty exit, and he is whisked away to meet Hall, who introduces himself as a high-ranking official with ties to the US government. Hall reveals that Claire was a skilled assassin working for his organization before her untimely demise, and that her past is shrouded in secrecy and danger. He presents photographic evidence of her death and implores David to cease his investigation, warning that exposing the truth about her assassination could place him in grave peril.

Initially, David acquiesces to Hall's demands, but his natural curiosity and skepticism soon get the better of him as he begins to question the official's true intentions. Catching on, Hall announces that he can no longer permit David to leave his custody, prompting the latter to take drastic action and commandeer the SUV in a daring escape. In the aftermath of this high-stakes getaway, David finds himself at a police station, where he stumbles upon a missing person's file bearing Claire's name, albeit under an alias. This discovery sets him on a collision course with Buck, who has since adopted the pseudonym Kyle. David's determination to uncover the truth ultimately leads him to orchestrate a meeting between Hall, Aleksandr, and himself, unwittingly setting the stage for a tense confrontation.

As chaos erupts and the two factions clash, David seizes Buck as leverage, demanding that they leave him be. However, his adversary refuses to back down, warning David that he has no idea what kind of trouble he's gotten himself into. Hall promptly seizes control of the situation by taking David hostage, subjecting him to physical torment in a bid to extract information about Claire's photographs. Just as all hope seems lost, an unexpected intruder bursts into Hall's warehouse, dispatching his guards with ruthless efficiency. This mysterious assailant is none other than Claire herself, who has been secretly manipulating events from behind the scenes.

With her return comes a newfound sense of purpose and resolve for David and Claire, as they prepare to face off against their adversaries in a final, desperate bid for survival. Before making their move, however, they take a poignant trip down memory lane, revisiting happier times as a couple amidst the countdown to their impending confrontation with Aleksandr and Hall's heavily armed entourage.
