What's After the Movie
Olatunde Osunsanmi (born October 23, 1977) is an American film and television director and producer whose career has spanned more than two decades, beginning in the early 2000s. Raised in the United States by Nigerian immigrant parents, he cultivated a cross‑cultural perspective that informs his storytelling, especially evident in his early short film Etat, which examined the political turbulence of 1970s Nigeria. After earning a Master of Fine Arts from Chapman University’s Dodge College of Film and Media Arts, Osunsanmi broke into feature filmmaking with the low‑budget horror The Cavern, before being tapped by Universal Studios to direct, produce, and co‑write the alien‑invasion thriller The Fourth Kind, a project that blended faux‑documentary elements with conventional horror. In 2013 he further demonstrated his versatility by directing the serial‑killer drama Evidence, starring Stephen Moyer. Transitioning to television, Osunsanmi quickly became a sought‑after episodic director, contributing to a diverse slate of series including Under the Dome, The Last Ship, Extant, Sleepy Hollow, Minority Report, Gotham, Blindspot, and multiple episodes of Star Trek: Discovery. His work on the TNT dystopian drama Falling Skies earned him a recurring role, culminating in directing the series finale “Reborn”. In 2022 he secured a multi‑year overall deal with CBS Studios, cementing his status as a reliable architect of genre television. Known for his collaborative energy and ability to balance visual flair with narrative tension, Osunsanmi continues to shape contemporary sci‑fi and horror storytelling across both the big and small screens.
