Lisandro Alonso

Lisandro Alonso is an esteemed Argentine film director and screenwriter who was born on 2 June 1975. He is known for his prolific career in the film industry that spans from 2001 to the present. Associated loosely with the New Argentine Cinema movement, he has breathed life into six feature-length films and a short film. In 2001, his striking film La libertad was proudly screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. His narrative and directorial prowess has been showcased in international platforms. His films Los Muertos and Liverpool were selected for the esteemed Toronto International Film Festival in 2004 and 2008, respectively. Further solidifying his reputation as a skilled director, Alonso's 2014 film Jauja competed in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival, where it won the coveted FIPRESCI Prize. In the same year, he was honoured as the Film Society of Lincoln Center's Filmmaker in Residence on 24 June 2014. His 2023 film Eureka, featuring the renowned actor Viggo Mortensen, had the honour of being screened at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival in the Cannes Premiere section.
