Lisa Cholodenko

Lisa Cholodenko (born June 5, 1964) is an acclaimed American screenwriter and director, conceived in San Fransisco, who has significantly impacted the film industry. Her notable works include High Art (1998), Laurel Canyon (2002), and The Kids Are All Right (2010). Her contributions also extend to television where she directed widely recognized miniseries such as Olive Kitteridge (2014) and Unbelievable (2019). Cholodenko's efforts led to multiple prestigious nominations like the Academy Award and the Golden Globe, and she clinched both Emmy and DGA awards. During her formative years, she received a BA in anthropology and ethnic studies from San Francisco State University and later earned an MFA from Columbia University School of the Arts in screenwriting and directing. During her time at Columbia, Cholodenko designed and directed several short films including Souvenir (1994) and Dinner Party (1997).
