Jonathan Adam Lynn, born on 3 April 1943, is an accomplished English stage and film director, esteemed producer, talented writer, and actor. Born and raised in Bath, Somerset, Lynn is the son of the respected physician Robin Lynn and the talented sculptor Ruth Helen. He graduated from Kingswood School, Bath, post which he studied law at the prestigious Pembroke College, Cambridge where his maternal uncle, the famous Israeli statesman Abba Eban had also studied. Lynn showed an early interest in performing arts and even participated in the Cambridge University Footlights Club revue Cambridge Circus. Lynn started his career in acting with his first West End appearance in a stage production of Green Julia, a performance that even earned him a nomination for the 1965 Plays and Players Award as Most Promising New Actor.
In addition to acting, Lynn also ventured into writing for television sitcoms, where he made significant contributions to series like 'Doctor in the House', 'Doctor at Large', 'Doctor at Sea', and 'Doctor on the Go'. His film appearances have included classic performances in films like Prudence and the Pill, The House that Dripped Blood, Romance with a Double Bass among several others. Lynn made a smooth transition to screenwriting with his first screenplay, The Internecine Project and his career gained further momentum when he started a prolific partnership with Antony Jay, writing for 'Yes Minister' and 'Yes, Prime Minister'. Lynn's talent transcended mediums when he co-authored books like 'The Complete Yes Minister' and 'The Complete Yes Prime Minister'. His non-fiction work 'Comedy Rules' is a delightful read which perfectly highlights his genius.
