James Reed

James Reed (born 30 November 1963) is a British businessman best known as the executive chairman of the Reed Group, one of the United Kingdom’s largest privately‑owned recruitment and HR firms. Born in London, England, he grew up in a family with deep roots in the staffing industry; his grandfather founded the original Reed employment agency in 1860. After completing a law degree at the University of Oxford, Reed joined the family business in the mid‑1980s, quickly distinguishing himself with a modern, technology‑driven approach to recruitment that helped the company expand internationally. By 2004 he had been appointed chief executive officer, overseeing a dramatic diversification into digital job platforms, training services, and corporate consulting, and guiding the group through the 2008 financial crisis without major layoffs.
