Geeta Gandbhir is an Indian‑origin American filmmaker whose career spans over two decades, marked by a relentless commitment to social justice and innovative storytelling. Born on September 18, 1970, in Boston, Massachusetts, she grew up in a household shaped by the immigrant experience; her father Sharad arrived from India in the 1960s to study chemical engineering, and her mother Lalita followed under the 1965 Immigration and Nationality Act. The family's emphasis on education helped Gandbhir pursue visual art with a focus on animation at Harvard University, where she first encountered Spike Lee, an encounter that would launch her entry into the film industry. After graduating, she worked alongside Lee and renowned editor Sam Pollard, gaining hands‑on experience that blended narrative sensibilities with documentary rigor.
