Francesco Munzi

Francesco Munzi is an Italian film director and screenwriter born on 1 September 1969 in Rome, Italy. From an early age, Munzi displayed a profound fascination with cinema, devouring classic Italian neorealist works and the gritty realism of contemporary European auteurs. After completing his studies, he entered the film industry initially as an assistant director, honing his craft on a variety of production sets before embarking on his own directorial ventures. His breakthrough came with the feature Saimir, a stark, socially charged drama that earned the prestigious Best Debut Film award at the Nastri d'argento and garnered accolades at the Venice International Film Festival, as well as nominations for both the European Film Award and the David di Donatello, establishing him as a bold new voice in Italian cinema.
