Dave Filoni

David Filoni, born on June 7, 1974 in Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania, is an American director, producer, writer, voice actor, and animator who has become one of the most influential creative forces at Lucasfilm. From his early work storyboard‑ing for series such as King of the Hill and Kim Possible to directing episodes of the critically acclaimed Avatar: The Last Airbender, Filoni honed a storytelling style that blends dynamic visual composition with deep character development. In 2008 he served as supervising director and helmed the theatrical release of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, a project that not only revived interest in the franchise’s animated narrative but also introduced iconic characters like Ahsoka Tano and Captain Rex, whose popularity endures across media. His passion for the galaxy far, far away is famously rooted in a lifelong admiration for the Jedi Master Plo Koon, a devotion reflected in the decor of his office and in subtle homages throughout his work. As creator and executive producer of Star Wars Rebels, The Bad Batch, Resistance, and the live‑action series Ahsoka, Filoni has consistently expanded the mythos while maintaining continuity, often providing voice performances for characters such as the droid Chopper and bounty hunter Embo. In 2019 he joined Jon Favreau’s team on The Mandalorian, directing the opening episode of season one and serving as a key consultant, earning the nickname “Lucas encyclopedia” for his encyclopedic knowledge of Star Wars lore. Elevated to Executive Vice President in 2020 and later promoted to Chief Creative Officer of Lucasfilm in 2023, Filnikov’s leadership now shapes all current and future Lucasfilm Animation projects, ensuring that his visionary approach continues to influence the franchise for years to come.
