Connie Rasinski

J. Conrad "Connie" Rasinski (born Constantine Rasinski on January 28, 1907) was an accomplished American animation director whose career spanned over three decades during the golden age of theatrical animation. Born in Torrington, Connecticut, Rasinski developed an early passion for art that would eventually shape his entire professional life. As a young aspiring artist, he had the privilege of studying under the legendary illustrator Norman Rockwell at the prestigious Art Students League of New York, an experience that profoundly influenced his visual style and storytelling instincts. After working in a variety of different jobs following his formal training, Rasinski made the pivotal decision to pursue a career in animation, a field that was rapidly evolving during the late 1920s and early 1930s.

In 1930, Rasinski began his animation career as an inker at the celebrated Terrytoons studio, a renowned producer of animated shorts that would become one of the most prolific animation houses of its era. His dedication and artistic talent quickly earned him recognition, and by 1937 he had risen through the ranks to become a director at Terrytoons, where he would leave an indelible mark on the industry. Throughout his prolific career, Rasinski directed and worked on numerous beloved animated characters and series, including the iconic Mighty Mouse, the mischievous Heckle and Jeckle, the charming Gandy Goose, Deputy Dawg, Clint Clobber, the lovable Terry Bears, and the spirited Little Roquefort. Among his most distinguished works was the 1952 animated short Hansel and Gretel, a beautifully crafted adaptation that demonstrated his ability to handle intricate storytelling and visual artistry.

Rasinski's reputation for excellence was further solidified when his short film House of Hashimoto was selected for competition at the prestigious 1961 Cannes Film Festival, a remarkable achievement that brought international recognition to his work. Rasinski passed away on October 13, 1965, in Larchmont, New York, at the age of 58, leaving behind a rich legacy of contributions to American animation that continues to be appreciated by animation enthusiasts and historians alike.
