William Harold “Bobby” Connolly was an influential American choreographer and director whose career spanned the vibrant transitional era from Broadway’s golden age to Hollywood’s classic studio system. Born on July 4, 1897, Connolly first made his mark on the New York stage in the mid‑1920s, providing the lively dance numbers for productions such as The Desert Song (1926) and the perennial favorite Good News (1927), where his kinetic imagination helped define the modern musical comedy. Over the next decade he became a fixture of the Ziegfeld Follies, contributing to the 1931 and 1934 revues and choreographing shows like Follow Thru (1929) and Take a Chance (1932), each time blending tap, jazz, and intricate ensemble patterns that drew enthusiastic applause from both audiences and critics.
