Angga Dwimas Sasongko

Angga Dwimas Sasongko (born 11 January 1985 in Jakarta, Indonesia) is one of the most influential contemporary film directors in the Indonesian cinema landscape. After graduating with a major in political science from the University of Indonesia, he launched his professional career at the age of nineteen, quickly distinguishing himself through a prolific output that includes dozens of TV commercials, hundreds of music videos, a feature documentary, and five critically acclaimed feature films. In 2008, he founded Visinema Pictures, a Jakarta‑based production house that has become a powerhouse for auteur‑driven projects, and through it he has nurtured a new generation of storytellers. His sophomore feature Hari Untuk Amanda (2009) earned eight Citra Award nominations, including Best Director, cementing his reputation for blending commercial appeal with artistic depth. The breakthrough came with Cahaya Dari Timur: Beta Maluku (2013), which not only won the Best Picture award at the 2014 Indonesian Film Festival but also made him the youngest producer ever to receive the Citra for Best Picture. Subsequent works such as Filosofi Kopi (2015), Surat Dari Praha (2016), and the internationally co‑produced 212 Warrior (2018) have expanded his reach, earning recognition at festivals from Taipei to Cannes and securing Indonesia’s official Oscar submission in 2016.

Beyond the screen, Angga is a committed activist. He co‑founded the Green Music Foundation with the late musician Glenn Fredly, launching the “Save Mentawai” movement after the 2010 earthquake and tsunami. He also initiated the PONDASI Project, establishing library‑based community learning centers in remote Mentawai villages, demonstrating his belief that storytelling and education are intertwined forces for social change. With a career spanning over two decades, Angga Dwimas Sasongko continues to shape Indonesian film culture while championing humanitarian causes, making him a multidimensional figure whose impact resonates both nationally and globally.
