Alberto Vázquez (born 5 January 1980) is a Spanish comic book artist and filmmaker who has become a prominent figure in contemporary visual storytelling. Born in Cáceres, Spain, Vázquez showed an early fascination with drawing, spending his youth sketching characters inspired by both classic European comics and the burgeoning world of animation. He pursued formal studies in graphic design at the Universidad de Sevilla, where he honed a distinctive style marked by bold line work, expressive characters, and a moody, atmospheric use of colour. After graduating, he quickly entered the independent comics scene, contributing to magazines such as Cómic and Bésame Mucho, and self‑publishing a series of graphic novels that earned critical praise for their narrative depth and visual originality. Vázquez’s transition to filmmaking began in the late 2000s when he started experimenting with short‑form animation, applying his comic‑book sensibilities to moving images. His first notable animated short, Luz de la Aventura, premiered at the Sitges Film Festival and was distinguished by its lyrical storytelling and meticulous hand‑drawn animation, securing a Best Short Film award.
