Alberto Lattuada, born as Mario Alberto Lattuada (Italian pronunciation: [alˈbɛrto lattuˈaːda, - latˈtwaːda]; 13 November 1914 – 3 July 2005), was a renowned Italian film director. Born in Vaprio d'Adda, he was the son of composer Felice Lattuada. Initially interested in literature, he became a part of the editorial staff of the antifascist fortnightly Camminare... (1932) and the artists' group Corrente di Vita (1938) while still a student. Despite his expressed interest in film, Lattuada's father wanted him to complete his studies in architecture prior to engaging in the film industry. His film career started as a screenwriter and assistant director for Mario Soldati's Piccolo mondo antico ('Old-Fashioned World', 1940). His first directed film was Giacomo l'idealista in 1943. The film - Variety Lights (1950), which was co-directed with Federico Fellini, marked the latter's first directorial venture. His movie - The Steppe was showcased in the 12th Berlin International Film Festival in 1962. He was also a part of the jury in the 20th Berlin International Film Festival in 1970. In 1979, New Line Cinema released his erotic film Stay As You Are in the United States.
