Voices of Hollywood—an immersive cinematic symphonic journey presented by the Santa Monica Symphony, led by conductor Pola Benke and solo violinist Alena Hove. The program opens with Erich Wolfgang Korngold’s luminous Violin Concerto in D Major, Op. 35, whose sweeping themes echo the film scores for *Another Dawn* (1937), *Anthony Adverse* (1936), and *The Prince and the Pauper* (1937). After a brief intermission, the orchestra delivers iconic Hollywood classics: a buoyant rendition of Nacio Herb Brown’s “Singing in the Rain” (1929) arranged by Demetrio Bonvecchio; Harold Arlen’s 1939 “Wizard of Oz Concert Suite” (arranged by John Mauceri); the pulse‑driving “The Magnificent Seven” theme by Elmer Bernstein (1960); the lush opening of John Barry’s “Out of Africa: Main Title (I Had a Farm in Africa)” (1985, orchestrated by Nic Raine); and a triumphant finale with John Williams’ “Hooray for Hollywood” (1988).
