Concert Film

Celebrate the dawn of cinema with "The Skladanowsky Brothers," a unique and captivating tribute to the pioneers who brought moving pictures to the world. Just weeks before the Lumières’ groundbreaking Cinématograph, the Skladanowsky brothers were already dazzling audiences in Berlin with their innovative Bioscop. Wim Wenders, a renowned filmmaker himself, joined forces with students from the Munich University of Television and Film to create this joyous commemoration, weaving together historical recreation and vibrant contemporary performance. Experience the magic as Laurent Petitgand, the acclaimed composer behind ten of Wenders’ films, provides a mesmerizing live score performed on electric piano, saxophone, harmonica, and guitar. The film playfully journeys from 1895 to 1996, concluding with a touching encounter with Lucie Skladanowsky, who shares cherished memories of her father and the early, exhilarating days of cinema. Shot largely with a vintage 1920s hand-cranked camera, "The Skladanowsky Brothers" bursts with a delightful, slapstick energy—a truly unforgettable celebration of film history.
