Spring Concert – Norderstedt Symphonic Wind Orchestra In May 2026, the Norderstedt Symphonic Wind Orchestra (SBN) invites you to an unforgettable musical journey in the great hall of the Laeiszhalle Hamburg. Led by the dynamic conductor Bernhard Volk and featuring clarinet virtuoso Leonie Hesse, the ensemble of approximately seventy musicians presents a sparkling programme that showcases the full spectrum of symphonic wind music – from stirring fanfares to cinematic soundscapes. The concert opens with Aaron Copland’s powerful “Fanfare for the Common Man”, followed by Bert Appermont’s evocative “Saga Candida”. The highlight is Óscar Navarro’s expressive Clarinet Concerto, performed by Hesse amid the orchestra’s brilliant accompaniment. After a brief interval, the audience is transported to middle‑earth with Johan de Meij’s “Gandalf Symphony No. 1 (The Lord of the Rings)” and Jan van der Roost’s heroic “Spartacus”. The grand finale brings Patrick Doyle’s “Henry V” (arranged by Johan de Meij), a rousing tribute to history and music alike. The SBN is celebrated for precise ensemble playing, musical diversity, and meticulously curated programmes. Their recent triumph—fourth place in the highest category at the 2025 German Orchestra Competition in Mainz and Wiesbaden—cements their reputation as one of Germany’s top amateur wind orchestras.
