Michel LeGrand opens the stage with the radiant voice of Vivian Buczek, one of today’s preeminent jazz singers whose dynamic presence and deep sense of tradition make each performance unforgettable. Joined by the Vivian Buczek Quartet—Matthias Heise on harmonica, Martin Sjöstedt at the grand piano, and Zoltan Csörsz on drums—Buczek takes the audience on a lush journey through the timeless melodies of Michel Le Grand, including iconic works like “The Windmills Of Your Mind” and “What Are You Doing The Rest Of Your Life.” For two decades, Buczek has partnered with Scandinavia’s leading jazz luminaries, from pianists Claes Crona and Jan Lundgren to trumpeter Peter Asplund. In recent years she has been joined on stage and in the studio by pianist and arranger Martin Sjöstedt, whose sophisticated arrangements breathe fresh life into classics from Cole Porter and George Gershwin. This time, the focus shifts to the rich treasure trove of Le Grand’s compositions, delivered with Buczek’s empathetic, warm, and brilliant vocals and accompanied by Martin Sjöstedt’s elegant arrangements. The program’s title, “Le Grand Michel,” pays homage to Asplund’s own composition and the evening’s celebrated composer.
