Concert Film

Experience the magic and profound emotion of Joe Hisaishi’s debut with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra in this unforgettable concert film. The globally renowned composer, conductor, and pianist, celebrated for his iconic film scores and breathtaking concert works, takes the stage to lead the PSO in a program of his most beloved compositions. Highlights include a stunning new concert version of music from the 2023 Golden Globe-winning Studio Ghibli film, “The Boy and the Heron,” and the highly anticipated US Premiere of Hisaishi’s deeply moving work, “The End of the World.” Joined onstage by the acclaimed Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh, the performance explores themes of resilience and reflection. “The End of the World,” inspired by Hisaishi’s visit to New York in 2007 and begun in 2008, is a powerful suite contemplating the anxiety and chaos born from the collapse of values following the September 11th attacks. As Hisaishi himself states, “I am honored to join Pittsburgh Symphony this Fall… this work was written for the people of the USA, and I’m excited to make the US premiere of this work in Pittsburgh.” Don't miss this extraordinary opportunity to witness a musical journey of reflection and hope.
