Forget the silver screen – immerse yourself in the power of music with International Brucknerfest 25: Movies? Music! The acclaimed Atalante Quartet explores the fascinating intersection of film and music, presenting five distinct perspectives on how composers draw inspiration from, and transcend, the cinematic experience. Journey through the works of legendary composer Bernard Herrmann, whose groundbreaking scores for films like *Citizen Kane* and *Taxi Driver*, and particularly his iconic work on Alfred Hitchcock’s *Psycho*, redefined the art of film music. Discover the rarely-heard beauty of Herrmann’s *Echoes* – a powerful example of “absolute music” – and experience Philip Glass’s mesmerizing *String Quartet No. 3 »Mishima«,* a piece born from the concert hall and inspired by his film score of the same name. The program also features Samuel Barber’s profoundly moving *Adagio*, instantly recognizable from its use in countless films, and a captivating world premiere from Austrian composer Helmut Schmidinger – a brand new string quartet piece created as a "film score without film," commissioned by the Brucknerhaus Linz. Join violinist Julia Kürner, violinist Elisabeth Eber, violist and moderator Thomas Koslowsky, and cellist Lisa Kürner for an unforgettable evening celebrating the timeless connection between music and film.
