Under the energetic baton of conductor Stefan Blunier, the Duisburg Philharmonic Orchestra engages fans and critics alike with a program that splashes the concert hall with bold brass fanfares, soaring strings, and adventurous winds. The night opens with a radiant fanfare of the brass that launches the iconic main theme from John Williams’s “Star Wars,” a piece that stands as one of the most beloved sounds in film history. From there the orchestra takes listeners across the solar system with Gustav Holst’s timeless “The Planets” — hear the “Bringer of Happiness” on Jupiter soaring in tandem with the “Mystic” on Neptune and the enigmatic “Magician” on Uranus, and indulge in Holst’s fitting ode to the majestic Jupiter. In preparation for the emotional crescendos of the final movements, the sensational Ukrainian-born saxophonist Asya Fateyeva, the orchestra’s Artist in Residence, performs a brand-new world‑premiere concerto by Mexican composer Enrico Chapela, a piece commissioned by the North Rhine‑Westphalia state as part of the “New Paths” program under the Duisburg Philharmonic’s “Music Axis Times” initiative. The radiant resonance of Chapela’s composition, characterized by its experimental, expressive language, showcases Genesis of new musical worlds. The night also opens with György Ligeti’s sublime “Clocks and Clouds” for women’s choir and orchestra, accompanied by the stunning Vocal Ensemble Lausch and Werk Ladies Choir.
