Concert Film

Homage to Philip Glass – a vibrant concert film featuring Brooklyn Rider’s trailblazing string quartet as they bring Philip Glass’s world to life. Led by violinist Johnny Gandel Sman, violist Colin Jacobsen, and cellists Nicholas Cord and Michael Nicolas, Brooklyn Rider has spent more than a decade becoming true connoisseurs of Glass’s musical DNA. For this twenty‑year anniversary, the quartet performs the complete cycle of Glass’s string quartets in their home town of New York, then in Antwerp curating a selection of their personal favorites: the hypnotic pulsing of “Mishima” (the soundtrack of Paul Schrader’s 1985 film), the introspective lines of “Company,” the repetitive tension of “Buczak,” and the monumental “String Quartet No 7.” The program also features “String Quartet No 2 ‘Company’,” “String Quartet No 5,” “Quartet Satz,” “String Quartet No 4 ‘Buczak’,” and “String Quartet No 3 ‘Mishima’.” Join the quartet as they let the music resonate with an unmistakable energy and stage presence.
