Dutch Classical Talent: Dokwerk Saxophone Quartet

The Dokwerk Saxophone Quartet—one of the four finalists of Dutch Classical Talent—embarks on a philosophically tinted quest for inner peace and connection, weaving a fascinating journey through works by Mendelssohn, Cage, Widmann and Tafreshi. In this evocative concert film, virtuosity and contemplation alternate as the quartet charts a musical map toward a quiet, personal island where time slows and the noise of modern life fades. Founded in 2019 by Lisa Schreiber, Jen‑Hong Wu, Ileana Termini and Pedro Silva, the ensemble was forged in the Dutch Saxophone School under the guidance of Arno Bornkamp and now represents this vibrant tradition with stimulating programs. Their set features John Cage’s “Living Room Music, Part II. Story” and “Part III. Melody,” Moses’ Adagio & Fugue (arr. Remco Jak), Jörg Widmann’s 7 Capricci, Felix Mendelssohn’s “The Hebrides” (arr. Ebonit SQ), Ramin Amin’s “Tafreshi A Shimmering Light,” Philip Glass’s “Mishima, Part IV. Closing” (soundtrack to the 1985 Paul Schrader film), and David Dramm’s “HeadLand.” Each piece brings the quartet’s three‑minute interludes of clarity before the final, resonant closing that invites fans to experience this Soulful, world‑spanning musical adventure.
